All cases with a CW# are to be handled by Dr. Ronald Hamilton:

  • Brains with a "CW#" have been banked by The Neuropathology Division

  • These brains form a special group of materials which could potentially be used in a large number of research studies

  • Friday before brain cutting: - NP Fellow should review CW cases with Dr. Hamilton

  • Tuesday of brain cutting: - Dr. Hamilton will be in morgue at 8:00 and will supervise the cutting and sectioning of these brains

  • DO NOT CUT THESE BRAINS WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION FROM DR. HAMILTON

  • Most cases will require a battery of special stains (e.g. the ADRC protocol). Check with Dr. Hamilton before ordering any stains

  • Jonette Werley will handle many of these cases, but some will be sent to regular histology along with the other autopsy materials. Dr. Hamilton will determine how these materials are to be handled.

  • DO NOT DICTATE THE GROSS OR MICRO ON THESE CASES

  • Dr. Hamilton has a specific protocol for these dictations and will be responsible for them

  • Give the folders to Dr. Hamilton and the slides, should they happen to end up in your hands

  • Dr. Hamilton will review these cases with the Fellow, Residents and Students at the ADRC and Pediatric Signout (Friday 9 am)
